Frequently asked questions
In France, a pellet rifle over 20 joules is considered very powerful and therefore more dangerous. That's why, above this level of power, buyers are required to present a valid shooting license or hunting permit. The shooter who opts for this type of model is experienced and knows the safety rules to be applied. Intended for long-distance shooting, the powerful pellet rifle provides the user with more sensations: agility, precision, velocity...
What is the caliber of a high-power rifle ?
Depending on the model, a high-power rifle can be either 4.5 or 5.5 millimeter caliber.
The former is the most widely used in France, and is suitable for shooting up to 30 meters. Beyond this distance, 4.5 mm pellets are much less accurate. The 5.5 mm caliber is used on rifles over 30 joules (although 4.5 mm rifles are still available). Heavier and therefore more stable, even in strong gusts of wind, 5.5 mm pellets are ideal for shooting over long distances (up to 100 meters!). Over such distances, we recommend fitting a rifle scope.
How is it armed ?
Like a conventional air rifle, the high-power rifle is generally cocked by muzzle break. The barrel must be lowered between shots to fire.
What models are available in the gunsmith's shop ?
We offer some twenty rifles over 20 joules on the Armoury. They are listed in the following categories: 20 joules / 30 joules / 40 joules.
Our most powerful models are around 40 joules. You won't find a 500, 300 or even 100 joule pellet rifle at Jean Pierre Fusil or any other French gun shop. These models are far too dangerous, and even non-existent in France.

Which models are the most powerful in the shop ?
To date, four 45 joule rifles are available from Jean Pierre Fusil. They are made by Spanish brand Gamo, operate on compressed air, have a 5.5-mm caliber and fire diabolo ammunition. We offer a comparison of these four pellet guns in the following article: Our most powerful pellet guns.
