What's the difference between a rifle and a shotgun ?
The rifle and carbine are long guns with a long barrel. Machine guns and rocket launchers are also part of this category of firearms. All of them must be supported in order to fire. Although they are heavier and more cumbersome than handguns (pistol, revolver), shoulder-fired weapons are also more accurate and powerful. Rifles and rifles are relatively similar in appearance, but there are some differences.
Rifle versus shotgun
• Shotgun : The barrel is smooth and suitable for cartridges containing multiple projectiles. The cartridges can be filled with small balls of lead, metal, steel...
• Hunting rifle : the barrel is rifled and only suitable for bullets (single projectile).
The rifled barrel creates a rotating movement of the projectile which causes it to gain speed and stabilizes it in the air. Thanks to it, the hunting rifle has a better accuracy and range.
Rifle versus military rifle
Both weapons are equipped with a rifled barrel and fire single projectiles. However, the military rifle is generally more powerful and accurate. In the army, soldiers are also much more equipped with rifles than carbines (For example : AK-47 / HK-416 assault rifles or sniper rifles).
